Spied! Mercedes-Benz C-Class and S-Class Coupe

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class and S-Class Coupe have been spotted while winter testing, and although the S-Class sedan has been spotted previously, the new coupe has just recently broken cover. The S-Class coupe looks to have wide-set headlights with LED daytime running lights and wide rear taillights that are very similar to the E-Class coupe.

The new S-Class coupe boasts a stylish new grille, similar to the upcoming CLA-Class. With a long hood and short rear deck, it seems likely that the S-Class coupe will share the same powertrain options as the sedan model, a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V-8 and 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-12. The new coupe is set to debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The C-Class sedan, however, looks like it will be moving upmarket and grow in size, further distancing itself from the upcoming CLA-Class four-door sedan. There will be new safety features implemented, including adaptive damping control, a self-parking system, forward-facing cameras, and automatic braking. The C-Class is also showing a new sporty design to help draw in the younger buyers.

Set to arrive in 2015 are a coupe and soft-top convertible models, it is unknown whether or not the convertible will make it to the states. The sedan will be equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s rear drive MRA, or modular rear-drive architecture. The new chassis will be much lighter and stiffer, despite the increase of exterior dimensions that have helped to increase interior space and cargo capacity.

The C-Class will be powered by a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 with 330 horsepower. There is even the possibility that the automaker will introduce a diesel variant, as diesel vehicles are on the rise. Rumors have a hybrid-gas model set to arrive in 2015 along with the coupe and convertible, with a possible 18 mile all-electric range. As of now, the seven-speed automatic transmission isn’t going anywhere, however, there’s the possibility that it will eventually  be replaced by a nine-speed automatic transmission.
