Kia is weighing the decision to launch either a new rear-wheel-drive sports model or compact SUV ans it tries to become a major player in the European new car industry.
In a recent interview, CEO Michael Cole said, âEveryone now knows our five-year plan to replace our volume models. But weâre also looking at a B-segment SUV through the Provo concept; thatâs the real intense sector of the market and we could do it off the Rio base so thatâs what I could see in Europe.â
It isnât a case of either/or when it comes to a GT or a Provo concept. Kia will most likely launch both a rear-drive big hatchback inspired by the GT and a smaller compact SUV inspired by the Provo SUV concept, but itâs just a matter of which will come first.
The launch of the new Kia Soul has been confirmed and will possibly debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show this month. âThere will be a new Soul for Europe in the next 12 months and it will come to Europe. But we could still see the likes of the Provo as a European Soul in the future,â commented Cole.
