2013 Aston Martin DB9 First Test

2013 Aston Martin DB9 First Test

It's about time they finally evolved the DB9. This is what the car should have been all along.

I like Aston, and their cars are gorgeous, and I even give them a pass for not making balls-out performance cars. But the DB9 was handicapped from day one with weak numbers,  soft styling, and questionable appointments.

I think it was done just to make room for the DBS, which was a great car. The Virage I thought was the perfect compromise, and it looks as if it has just become the new DB9.

Either way, I'd certainly take this over a Bentley Conti GT, Benz CL, and the like.

New Details on Ferrari F150 Hit the Web after Private Preview, Said to have 950HP

New Details on Ferrari F150 Hit the Web after Private Preview, Said to have 950HP

Ferrari has an old habit of showing off its future models to potential buyers (read extremely wealthy) behind locked doors well before it reveals the cars to the rest of the world.

One such private preview is rumored to have taken place on Wednesday, in Maranello, where Ferrari lifted the wraps off the F150 Project, which is the codename for the Enzo replacement that may or may not be called the F70 in production trim.

To prove that this event did indeed occur today in Ferrari's home town, one participant took a shot of a metal plate from the event, while at least two people have shared some very interesting details about the new mid-engine hypercar, though, keep in mind, there's no way of confirming the numbers (yet).

We will begin with FerrariChat forum member SergioAutoform who said one of his clients invited to the event, shared this post on his Facebook page:

"Just saw the F150 ( the new Enzo) official name not released yet. Overall view: only 499 will be produced. only available in 3 colour. 800hp at 9200RPM with additional KERS of 150HP. Zero to 100 in 3 second to 200 in 7 seconds. Max speed around 370KMH. Fiorano Best lap with Alonso driving 1:20. Numbering expected in less than 7minutes."

"Fixed seat. Adjustable paddles. Rear Wing and mobile Diffuser. Break from 200 to zero. In 115 Meters. Weight around 1280 include the electrical engine of 150kg. Chassis totally made of Carbon Fiber. T800 and T1000 sheet. Kavler prot ected underneath. The car is breathtaking. If I was a Saint and she was a ***** it would make me certainly a Sinner."

These numbers match another posting, this time at the Teamspeed forums:

950 BHP plays 1,270 KG
Bespoke V12 built to sound like a Formula One engine at full chat
Engine Red-Lines @ 9,200 RPM but Max Torque available from 1,000RPM
499 Cars @ EUR1.2 million
Official Launch in Geneva
Deliveries Commence December 2013

Apple’s Siri Eyes Free on Select 2013 Honda and Acura Vehicles

Apple’s Siri Eyes Free on Select 2013 Honda and Acura Vehicles

American Honda announced earlier today the integration of support for Apple’s Siri into the 2013 Honda Accord and Acura RDX and ILX models as a dealer installed option. Owners with an iPhone running the iOS 6 operating system will be able to accomplish specific tasks without ever taking their eyes off the road.

Honda has reengineered its own software to properly integrate with Siri Eyes Free mode through the on-board microphone and speakers. It recognizes the power of this new option as an in-vehicle tool that will responsibly meet the connectivity and convenience needs of customers.

With Eyes Free mode, hands-free functionality and distractions are lessened even further by not allowing the device’s screen to light up. “iPhone has become so integral to people’s lives that they continue to use them in their vehicles. Offering Honda and Acura owners Siri and its Eyes Free mode via Bluetooth is an incredible opportunity to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customer’s ever-changing needs,” said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of automobile product planning at American Honda.

Tour the 2013 Detroit Auto Show through a Super Gallery of 400+ Photos

Tour the 2013 Detroit Auto Show through a Super Gallery of 400+ Photos

The 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit won't open for the public until Saturday, January 19, (January 16-17 is the industry preview, and January 18, the charity preview) but if you’ve been following our coverage of event, you should know most things you need to know.

While no one was surprised by Detroit’s big three choosing their hometown to launch their new production and concept cars, this year’s show also had major world premieres from Asian and European automakers, too.

Wrapping up our NAIAS report, we thought we’d make a quick review of this year†™s most notable offerings.

First things first: the seventh-generation Corvette, by far the most eagerly awaited presentation, undoubtedly impresses with its technology (aluminum frame, carbon fiber bodywork parts, cylinder deactivation) and performance. Bringing back the Stingray moniker is either proof of GM’s confidence in the new Vette or a clever marketing trick.

Next up is another GM product, the Cadillac ELR. That’s an even tougher one to judge. It sure looks delicious â€" but then again, with the Converj concept as a starting point, Caddy’s designers would have to be on mind-addling drugs to get it wrong. It's rumored, but not yet confirmed, $ 60k asking price will pu t it up against some pretty stiff competition, so it had better be much more than just a sleek Chevy Volt if it wants to succeed.

Ford came up pretty strong as well. If the Atlas concept makes it into production as the next F-Series pickup, it will probably increase the difference in the U.S. market from the runner-up on the sales front. The Blue Oval’s effort to resuscitate its Lincoln brand is  also notable, as after the MKZ saloon, the MKC crossover concept not only puts the brand in a high-volume segment, but also makes for a convincing entry.

Oh Chrysler, where art thou? The Pentastar’s Detroit Motor Show presence was conspicuously restrained, with only the updated Grand Cherokee making a blip on the radar. The all-new Maserati Quattroporte also made its world debut, though a.) it’s aimed at a pretty small audience and b.) for the umpteenth time, WHERE is Alfa Romeo, signiore Marchionne?

As far as European manufacturers are concerned, it’s the premium brands that really made an impact with their NAIAS premieres.

After revealing the long-awaited “baby CLS” CLA saloon at a special event in Detroit, Mercedes-Benz headed to the Cobo center with the comprehensively reworked E-Class, while BMW had the 4-Series Concept, aka the new 3-Series Coupe, and the M6 Gran Coupe, while Audi debuted two high performance models, the SQ5 crossover and the wild RS7 Sportback.

From Japan, the new Lexus IS and the Infiniti Q50 sports sedans are among the stars of the show and it will be interesting to see how they will do against established rivals such as the 3-Series. Acura on its behalf premiered the near-production 2014 MDX Prototype and the NSX Concept II. Toyota showed what the next Corolla could look like in a far, far away galaxy with th e Furia Concept and Nissan had a sleek study for a crossover named the Resonance.

A special mention goes to Bob Lutz and his VIA X-Truck that combines tough looks and a monstrous 800HP with a claimed 100MPGe, and the ZR1-powered Fisker Karma, and Hyundai for its daring four-door coupe, HCD-14 Genesis concept.
