Scoop: Mercedes-Benz Takes Next S-Class to New Lengths with S600 Pullman

After giving the Maybach brand the death sentence, Daimler and its Mercedes-Benz unit had to come up with a new solution to cover the über â€"luxury limousine segment.

Once again, the answer to this problem came from Mercedes-Benz's past and more specifically, the W100-codenamed 600 Pullman, which in its original form, was produced in limited numbers from 1964 until 1981.

Mercedes-Benz will resurrect the 600 Pullman moniker for the most luxurious version of the new W222 S-Class. In these fresh spy pictures, we see the new S600 Pullman parked next to the regular S-Class, which itself will be introduced on May 15.

The Pullman edition will ride on an elongated platform with an extra-long wheelbase, which calls for wider B-pillars and lengthened rear doors. Needless to say, the car will offer king-size space for rear passengers along with all the luxury amenities and technological gadgets one would expect from a model that wants to be the choice for world leaders and the richest of the richest.

We can't see the exterior details due to the heavy camouflage, but expect Mercedes to make some mild changes to the front and rear end design of the S-Cla ss-based model.

As for power, the S600 Pullman will likely be fitted with a twin-turbocharged V12, though, we could see a high-tech hybrid version added to the range down the line.

The new S600 Pullman will be one of the many new additions to the W222 S-Class range, which will also include the Coupe, Cabriolet and possibly, a four-door convertible model.
