BMWâs vaunted 335i is now moreâ¦Swedish?
Okay, not exactly, but BMWâs M Division today announced at the New York Auto Show that, like itâs Swedish rival Volvoâs tuner Polestar, it will begin offering performance engine tuning for 2012 and newer 335i and 335i xDrive sedan owners who want more power.
The M Performance Power Kit is a 50-state legal software update to the carâs computer that results in increased power. Best of all, as a factory option, it retains BMWâs 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.
The $ 1,100 option adds 20 horsepower on all models, boosting performance figures and engine response without affecting emissions and mpg figures. Yup, that means 320 horsepower in a car we already suspect might be underrated.
In addition to the software boost, the M Performance Power Kit comes with a revised intake, an M Performance engine cover and rocker panel decals.
Automotive.comâs take: We love when factory tuners dole out extra power without affecting mpg or factory warranties. No doubt the success of Volvoâs Polestar packages opened up eyes for this new segment OEM performance. This happens most often with turbocharged cars, and we see no reason that it canât continue in other cases as well. The M Performance Power Kit is just a mild tune (enthusiasts who crave more power will no doubt love Cobb Tuningâs Accessport), but thatâs why we love it.
