The 2013 New York International Auto Show is now a week away, and Jaguar weâll be breaking out its performance line for Gothamâs show. The 2014 Jaguar XJR sedan will make its global debut in New York and will be flanked by the all-new F-Type as well as the XJ and XF all-wheel drive sedans. Jaguar will use the New York show as a spring board to show off its expanded R lineup, which now includes the 2014 XJR sedan.
Jagâs flagship sedan gets an added kick when it wears the âRâ badge and will be powered by the proverbial 5.0-liter V-8 engine also seen in the XFR-S that debuted in Los Angeles last year. This mill is rated at 550 horsepower, making the XJR the fastest variant of Jaguarâs flagship. Previously, Jaguar said the XKR-S was the fastest vehicle in its stable with 550 hp and 502 pound-feet of torque, that latter number you can expect from the XJR, as well. Unlike the XKR-S though, the XJR doesnât appear to feature any different styling cues to let you know itâs part of Jaguarâs performance lineup. All of these missi ng exterior styling traits may show up inside the 2014 Jaguar XJR though, as the British automaker has hinted at.
The addition of the 2014 Jaguar XJR sedan is an example of parent company Tata Motorsâ attempt to cater to a wider audience. Offering more performance-oriented models, engines with smaller displacements, and all-wheel drive variants appears to be Jaguarâs game plan to win more customers.
Next week, the 2014 Jaguar XJR will make its global debut at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. Weâll be on the show floor so stay tuned for more details on the expanded R lineup and countless other automotive news bits.
