General Motors is recalling the 2013 Buick LaCrosse and 2013 Cadillac SRX crossover to fix an electronic glitch that may send the vehicles immediately into Sport mode in their transmission settings. While that doesnât seem like a huge deal, what it does is eliminate engine braking, making it easier for the vehicles to speed up unexpectedly and without the driver selecting a different driving mode. That, in turn, could increase the risk of an accident.
The recall affects 26,582 vehicles, with the Buick LaCrosse models affected having been built from April 25, 2012, to March 6, 2013, and the Cadillac SRXs being built from May 29, 2012, to February 18, 2013. The recall is expected to begin March 28, 2013, with General Motors replacing the transmission control unit in each vehicle free of charge at its respective dealerships.
For more information, Cadillac customers can call (866) 982-2339 and Buick owners can reach customer service at (866) 694-6546, referencing GM recall number 13053. Owners of affected vehicles can also find more information through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationâs hotline at (888) 327-4236, referencing campaign number 13V097000.
