2014 BMW M6 to Receive 6-Speed Manual Transmission; Frozen White 650i Convertible to Mark Latest Special Edition

2014 BMW M6 to Receive 6-Speed Manual Transmission; Frozen White 650i Convertible to Mark Latest Special Edition

As we reported back in January, the 2014 BMW M6 is getting a new six-speed manual transmission, sharing it with the mechanically similar M5 sedan. BMW has finally made it official.

The 560-horsepower super coupe has a few notable upgrades and changes for the new model year, including the aforementioned transmission, newly available carbon ceramic brakes, and the addition of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe to the lineup, which adds a little practicality.

Like the M5, the M6 has a standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that can rip off lightning-fast shifts. But it’s not necessarily what the American market wants, so we get the manual transmission at no extra cost, exclusive to North America. As for the carbon ceramic brakes, they help pare 43 pounds of unsprung massâ€"which directly affects rotational force needed to get the car goingâ€"and also help dissipate heat faster. That helps when you’re lobbing a 4,200-pound car around a track. BMW has priced the 2014 M6 starting at $ 110,545.

Both the transmission and the brakes are available in coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe models.

In addition to the top-level BMW M6, other BMW 6 Series models got a few enhancements. The six-cylinder BMW 640i Gran Coupe is now available with xDrive all-wheel drive, and every 6 Series car gets an updated version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment software. In addition, there’s a special edition 650i convertible heading to showrooms for 2014.

It also takes a good hand-washing to keep clean. The Frozen Brilliant White cars will come with 20-inch two-color wheels, black Nappa leather upholstery, gray poplar wood accents, the M Sport package, and Executive package. All-wheel-drive models will also have the Cold Weather package as standard eq uipment. It will also mark the introduction of BMW’s fully digital instrument cluster to the U.S.

The 650i Frozen Brilliant White will start at $ 106,695, including destination and handling, for a rear-wheel-drive model, and it will come in at $ 110,095 with xDrive. A handful of options will be available.

The 2014 BMW M6 will be available nationwide on June 5, and the BMW 650i Frozen Brilliant White should go into production in late April, with the first models arriving at dealers shortly thereafter. Expect all 2014 BMW 6 Series models to be on sale by summer.
