Recall Alert: 6,500 2013 Ford Vehicles for Faulty Child Safety Locks

Recall Alert: 6,500 2013 Ford Vehicles for Faulty Child Safety Locks

Ford has announced a recall of nearly 6,500 new 2013 vehicles due to a rear door child safety lock that may be faulty. Vehicles in the recall include the 2013 Ford Focus, C-Max, and Escape. At this time, Ford is unaware of any injuries or accidents in connection with the recall.

In a recent statement, Ford told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that “the child lock may not engage when the operator uses normal turning force to activate the child lock, and the operator may incorrectly believe the child lock is engaged.”

The vehicles with the possible faulty child safety locks were built at Ford’s Michigan Assembly plant and Louisville Assembly plant from November 16-21, 2012. Ford temporarily halted shipments after the problem was discovered on November 20. Dealers will replace the rear door latch if necessary at no cost to the owners. Ford will begin to notify owners starting on March 25.
