Letâs start with what has been said about the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG: Itâs wicked fast. Despite weighing more than a some small houses and being shaped like one, too, 536 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torqueâ"pulling forceâ"from a twin-turbocharged V-8 makes the German off-roader pound through air.
Itâs also as luxurious as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which makes the deal all the more appealing.
The G-Class is used by military forces all over the world; most donât have anywhere near the power of the G63 under their hoods, and none have the luxury goodies. But a fair amount start out as six-wheel-drive haulers. And one, apparently, got converted to being an ultra-luxury, cost-no-object, obstacles-no-object AMG model, not coincidentally shown first in Dubai.
Going into very limited production for the third quarter of 2013, the G63 AMG 6Ã6 will have five locking differentials for off-roading, standard 37-inch tires, and will come in 43.5 inches longer, 8.8 inches wider, and 10.7 inches taller than the standard G-Class. Its fuel economy will be dismal, but itâll have two gas tanks that suck down premium as if it were a sport. Mercedes is looking at making 20 to 30 of them, most likely headed for sheikhs in the Middle East. But then, they should be able to afford what is expected to be a price of $ 525,000, or more than three times the price of a normal G63 AMG. Watch it in action below.
