2013 Buick Enclave Earns 5-Star Safety Rating

2013 Buick Enclave Earns 5-Star Safety Rating

The 2013 Buick Enclave has received a five-star overall vehicle score for safety under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program, the highest possible score. The Enclave is also an IIHS 2013 Top Safety Pick.

Since the 2011 model year, the NHTSA has used a tougher safety test, with stricter requirements to earn the coveted five-star safety rating. More comprehensive information about safety performance and crash-avoidance technologies have been included in the test, and other changes include a new side pole test simulating a 20 mph side-impact crash.

“Safety is a key consideration for all car buyers, and particularly when it comes to family-oriented luxury vehicles. The Enclave is designed to provide excellent crash safety,” said Gay Kent, FM general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness, in a recent interview.

Buick has equipped the new Enclave with a front center air bag, an industry first. It is designed to help protect drivers and front passengers in far-side impact crashes. When a severe impact happens, the air bag will deploy in millisecond from the inboard side of the driver’s seat and will inflate between the driver and front passenger.
