Today, Motor Trend TV’s Roadkill gives us a battle between two cop car staples, the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor P71, and the Chevrolet Caprice 9C1. In this episode, David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan are out to discover which of these used cop cars they like the best. Through tests both on and off the road, Freiburger and Finnegan deliver an episode full of events that push the limits of the retired cop cars.
The episode opens with two goals, one being to find out which car is better, and two, invent a brand-new motorsport. Kicking off with an old-fashioned drag race, David Freiburger, editor in chief of Hot Rod, said, “I predict complete dominance by the Caprice, no doubt.â€
Mike Finnegan, staff editor for Hot Rod, jumps the start and brakes early, declaring himself to be the winner. Not satisfied with the outcome, Freiburger decides there needs to be a rematch and the Caprice, just as anticipated, makes short work of the Crown Victoria.
After the road tests, both men head to the desert to build an off-road track on land owned by Finnegan’s family. In preparation for the desert, each car gets a tire change. The Crown Victoria is now sporting a set of ice tires, and the Caprice gains some intimidating mud tires.
Now in the desert, instead of digging out a track, both men decide to carve out a track with their cars, the Crown Victoria up first. After a once-around, the Caprice joins the track and soon gets stuck in silt. The Crown Victoria comes to the rescue, but while pulling the caprice out of its rut, it gets stuck as well and it’s up to the camera crew’s truck to get them both out.
