East Coasters interested in Honda's subcompact EV rejoice, yes all five of you: the new all-electric 2013 Fit EV will be available for the first time at select Honda dealerships in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey before the end of the month. The move follows the market launch of the Fit EV in California and Oregon in July 2012.
There are two things you should now about the Fit EV, the first being that Honda plans to limit overall production for the entire United States to only 1,100 cars, and the second, that you can't buy it (not that many consume rs would be willing to pay Honda $ 37,415 with destination for the Fit EV). Instead, it is offered as a lease for a period of three years at a cost of $ 389 per month, with no purchase option at the end.
"Expanding the availability of the ultra-efficient Fit EV to the East Coast is the next logical step in Honda's strategic and customer-focused approach to growing the market for low-CO2, sustainable mobility technologies," said Steve Center, vice president of the American Honda Environmental Business Development Office.
The Fit EV features a 20kWh Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery and a 92kW (equal to 123 horsepower) AC synchronous electric motor that generates 189 ft-lb of torque. It offers an estimated driving range rating of 82-miles (132 kilometers) and a combined adjusted Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mile-per-gallon-equivalency rating of 118 MPGe.
