American Honda announced earlier today the integration of support for Appleâs Siri into the 2013 Honda Accord and Acura RDX and ILX models as a dealer installed option. Owners with an iPhone running the iOS 6 operating system will be able to accomplish specific tasks without ever taking their eyes off the road.
Honda has reengineered its own software to properly integrate with Siri Eyes Free mode through the on-board microphone and speakers. It recognizes the power of this new option as an in-vehicle tool that will responsibly meet the connectivity and convenience needs of customers.
With Eyes Free mode, hands-free functionality and distractions are lessened even further by not allowing the deviceâs screen to light up. âiPhone has become so integral to peopleâs lives that they continue to use them in their vehicles. Offering Honda and Acura owners Siri and its Eyes Free mode via Bluetooth is an incredible opportunity to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customerâs ever-changing needs,â said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of automobile product planning at American Honda.
